Thanks ALL...What happens to my credit file when I legally change my name? do I have to %26quot;manually transfer all my data? No. When you change your name and contact your creditors they will update your credit file. On your credit reports you will see personal info. This includes all alas and addressWhat happens to my credit file when I legally change my name? do I have to %26quot;manually transfer all my data? You must transfer all your present account into your new name. That includes you SS number. If you get a new number you will lose all benefits that you have accumulated to this time.

You have to go to court and make such application. Having your request granted, then everything in your old name - all credit accounts, insurance policies, drivers license, any special licenses you hold, bank acounts, auto registration, tax returns, Every piece of data that governs your present life must be changed to your new identity. If you fail to change each an every one, you can have some serious trouble in future. You are also exposing yourself to identity theft since your name change must be published.

If you get a new SS number what willy ou do with all the deposits that you have accumulated. This will be lost since you can never again use your old name. You can get a new SS number. This is possible.

By the way, you name change is legally recorded with the courts. It is a matter of public record. If you are trying to hide, the police, insurance companies and credit agencies will have access to this data and can trace your old identity.
