Step 1 - Go to my computer.

Step 2 - Go to tools%26gt;Folder options.

Step 3 - Click the view tab.

Step 4 - Make sure 'hide extensions for known file types' is unchecked.

Step 5 - Click ok

Step 6 - Go to the file whose extension u wanna change. change the extension (from .dat to .mpg,.avi).

Step 7 - Follow Step 1 - 3 and check 'hide extensions for known file types'.

you cannot change the extension just by renaming them...

you have to convert them...

goto rename and while renaming type the filename with extension name....

Actually converting the CONTENT of the file to the new format is something else altogether. .DAT is a very generic extension, where as .AVI and .MPEG are usually video files. What's ecc?
