How can i change a file name without corrupting it?

i downloaded some movies off limewire and they were labeled incorrectly. i tried to change the names, but i get the message:

%26quot;if you change a file name extension, the file may become unusable.%26quot;

how do i get around this? all i want to do is change the name of the file.How can i change a file name without corrupting it?you can rename the file as long as you don't change the extension. Example: moviename.mpg rename it to

mymovie.mpg

So, right-click, rename. Change what comes before the dot.How can i change a file name without corrupting it?right click on the file, and instead of going to properties, just click on rename.How can i change a file name without corrupting it?rightclick the file in a folder and choose rename. It shouldn't touch the extension. What are you doing where it is talking about you changing the .mpg or whatever?How can i change a file name without corrupting it?Highlight the item, then press F2 or right click and rename.

Don't add any extension into your file name. Such as , don't add .mp3 or .wmv etc. Just change the name.How can i change a file name without corrupting it?changing the filename has nothing to do with corrupting it all it does is affect the type of program it automatically opens with, it can also change the way programs read the file, but if it doesnt work out you can always just name it back with no problems.How can i change a file name without corrupting it?What you can do is go into My computers then at the top click the

Tools -%26gt; Folder Options -%26gt; View -%26gt; Make sure %26quot;Hide Extensions for Known File Types%26quot; is check marked.

Or just don't delete or change anything in the file name that comes after the period. So for example our imaginary file:

imaginaryfile.txt

Rename imaginaryfile but don't change the .txt part. That part tells the computer what to do with that file, if it's a movie, a music file, a text document.. you get the idea.How can i change a file name without corrupting it?just change the name and leave the extension alone. the extention is after the dot. movie.avi avi is the extention and movie is the name. change thename such as movie123.avi and you should be ok .
