How can i change the name of a file without it changing format after i have dragged and dropped it?

When ever i change a file name and then drag and drop it to a new place, the format of the file changes.

Thanks.

Is it something to do with file extensions? How can i change the name of a file without it changing format after i have dragged and dropped it?Right click on the file

click rename

In Vista it highlights just the name and not the extension.

DO NOT change the file extension ie .exe .pdf .dllHow can i change the name of a file without it changing format after i have dragged and dropped it?I don't know what you mean by %26quot;format%26quot;.

You need to keep the file extension the same when you rename it.

So if you have a file called thisfile.bmp you can change its name to anothefile.bmp If you change the bmp bit then the right program will not recognise it.How can i change the name of a file without it changing format after i have dragged and dropped it?u don want to drag and drop u have to copy them in the same thing!!!!!!!!!!exmsword means u have to copy them and paste into msword then only t format will not change
