How do i change a file name extension?

I have a project due tomorrow, I've spent hours recording this stuff and now I want to burn it. But windows media player is telling me something about the codec. I am so hopelessly lost and it needs to be done tonight.

thanks to anyone who can helpHow do i change a file name extension?just get to file in your command prompt and rename

ex.if ur filenmae f1.ex1 you can type

ren f2.ex2 where f2 and e2 are new filename and extensions respectively,you can use the old ones also.How do i change a file name extension?Before changing, copy your file to another location as a backup in case there happens to be any error to your file after changing (usually will not happen but for your own safety).

For the changing of filename ext,-%26gt; open up My Computer-%26gt;go to Tools-%26gt;Folder Options-%26gt;go to View tab-%26gt;scroll and find in the checklist %26quot;Hide extensions for known file types%26quot;-%26gt;Uncheck the box and click apply, ok. Close and reopen window or just press F5 to refresh screen.

Points to note;

1) I assume you are trying to change the ext. for some media files (probably mp3, wav to burn as a CD). Yes, you can try changing the ext because sometimes media files have different codec than what is supposed to for its ext(eg. wav;- wav file can have an mp3 codec. But WMP may not be able to play it unless u change the ext to .mp3). Make sure u know what type of media it is... video or audio...change accordingly.

2) Secondly, if changing doesnt work, it means ur WMP doesnt have the Decoder for the codec of ur media file. Just update ur WMP (open WMP-%26gt;go to Help-%26gt;Check for player updates)
