IS THERE ANY WAY TO CHANGE THE FILE NAME EXTENSION WITHOUT HAVING TO BUY ANOTHER PROGRAM?

RECEIVED E-MAIL WITH .KMZ AT THE END, MY COMP. DOESN'T RECOGNIZE IT. HOW CAN IT BE CHANGED.IS THERE ANY WAY TO CHANGE THE FILE NAME EXTENSION WITHOUT HAVING TO BUY ANOTHER PROGRAM?You can't just change it and, voila, it'll turn into what you want. What you want is impossible with or without a commercial program. I think you need google earth to open the files.IS THERE ANY WAY TO CHANGE THE FILE NAME EXTENSION WITHOUT HAVING TO BUY ANOTHER PROGRAM?Unless it's a Google Earth Saved Working Session or a Correlate K-Map Zipped KnowledgeMap, it's anyone's guess. If it's one of those ... well ...

For Google, you'll probably have to check the Google Earth site to see what to do with it. For Correlate, you'll have to buy the program.

(The extension only indicates the file's contents. Changing it doesn't change the contents. So if the file is a data file for a particular program, changing it to the extension used by another program just renders the file unusable, it doesn't change the contents.to be usable by the second program. That's why Windows warns you if you try to change the extension - if you don't REALLY know what you're doing, you're probably turning the file into garbage.)IS THERE ANY WAY TO CHANGE THE FILE NAME EXTENSION WITHOUT HAVING TO BUY ANOTHER PROGRAM?Hi,

%26quot;KMZ files are compressed collections of one or more files for viewing in Google Earth. They are compressed using the zip format, and can be opened using any common zip tool, such as %26quot;WinZip%26quot; or the default Windows XP Compressed Folders Tool--for Windows, %26quot;Stuffit%26quot;--for Mac OS, or %26quot;zip%26quot;--for Mac OS or Linux. You may need to change the file extension from .kmz to .zip to have the file be recognized by a zip tool. Remember to change back to .kmz before using the file again.%26quot;

Good LUck
