How do I change the name path of the file?

example

C:\Documents and Settings\wendy\Desktop\today.jpg

I think the wendy is a computer name or something right? How do I change it to something else? How do I change the name path of the file? The only way to change the path of a file is to move the file to a different directory. (The path describes where the file is stored in the directory system.)

On Windows XP, each user gets a profile directory where his/her files are stored, along with a host of other little pieces of data related to that user only. The %26quot;wendy%26quot; piece of the path in your question refers to a profile created for a person named (presumably) Wendy.

The only way to change a profile directory name (without breaking gobs of things) is to create a new user account with the profile name you wish to use, and then move most of the data (not all, or weird things might happen) from the old profile directory to the new.

UPDATE:

Others have posted that you can change the profile name in Control Panel to change the profile directory name. That might be true on Windows XP Home. I made my assertion above based on my experience with Windows XP Pro in a domain/Active Directory environment using AD-validated users, and thus, without thinking, failed to consider the simpler method possibly available in a simpler environment.

UPDATEd UPDATE:

Somebody, at some time, created a %26quot;wendy%26quot; account. Or, possibly, someone just manually created a %26quot;wendy%26quot; directory in the location where account profiles are stored. If the account really does not exist in Control Panel/Users, then you can just manually rename it as you like. How do I change the name path of the file?its the account name you can change it in

control panel %26gt; user accountsHow do I change the name path of the file?wendy is probably the name of the user logged on (if you just want to change that, change the name of the user). To change the directory, create the new one that you wish to put it in, then cut or copy it and paste it in the new one.How do I change the name path of the file?Hello...

If I read you question correctly then the following will apply.

The user account originally set was names %26quot;wendy%26quot;. It appears that since then the user account name was changes. XP remembers the original account setting and retains them for operating reasons; file paths etc. After you change the account name, the original account name %26quot;sockets%26quot; to the new account name retains file paths.

The remedy?

1) Create a whole new account and give it administrator privileges. This is done when the account is created. Do not do anything with the new account.

2) Next navigate to the C:\Documents and Settings\wendy\ folder.

3) Open your new account, C:\Documents and Settings\new user, in a new window

4) Copy the documents folder, favorites, desktop to the root of the new user folder, replacing the existing folders.

5) You now have all of the %26quot;wendy%26quot; data in your new account, and do what you please with the data.

This is not as difficult a process as you might think....best of luck!
