How to remove the common part in file names (in windows ME) with one single command or a simple orperation?

I saw this question posted but no useful answer. Since I have the similar situation and want to know how to do it too, I post this question and would appreciate any pointers.

It'd take huge amount of time to change file name one by one for hundreds of files. These files have a common part I want to get rid of, but the rest part I still want to keep. For example:

class abc124.gif

classhijk.bmp

class 345def.jpeg

I'd like to remove %26quot;class%26quot; and keep the rest meaningful name for each file. These file names will become:

abc124.gif

345def.jpeg

hijk.bmp
